Smart Lock Does Not Work: Fit Problem, Setup Problem, or Incompatibility?
Triage a failed smart-lock installation by separating physical fit, required door actions, calibration, power, network, and ecosystem causes.
Read guideCompatibility library
Separate door-fit, operating-sequence, power, and smart-home setup problems before replacing a smart lock.
A smart lock that fails to lock, reports an error, or disappears from an app is not automatically incompatible with the door. The cause may be a binding bolt, an uncompleted handle sequence, weak power, calibration, Bluetooth setup, the home network, or an integration that exposes fewer controls than the lock’s own app.
Start with the physical door and the exact lock model, then work outward to the app and network. These guides explain how to narrow the cause while preserving a reliable way to enter and leave.
Some setup and recovery behavior belongs to one lock model. Follow the guide for your exact product:
These are model-scoped procedures, not instructions for other locks. If the door cannot be operated normally by hand, the lock may be jammed, or you cannot confirm its security state, stop remote retries and use the manufacturer’s instructions or a qualified locksmith.
