Adapters, Spacers, Mounting Plates, Strikes, and Thick-Door Kits
Match a mechanical accessory to the exact door constraint and lock generation it is documented to address.
Jump to a section
An accessory is useful only when it changes the condition that failed for the exact lock model. Identify the model and measure the door first. Then check the current installation guide and part listing before ordering.
Match the part to the failed condition
| Door or lock issue | Accessory to investigate | Limits to keep in view |
|---|---|---|
| Door is thicker than the lock’s standard range | Manufacturer’s thick-door kit or named longer fasteners | Confirm the kit’s exact model range, screw and tailpiece selection, and current availability. A kit for one model does not establish support for another. |
| Cylinder length or key function does not match | A replacement cylinder or the named cylinder’s spacer set | Measure both sides and check profile, cam, key operation, and the exact smart-lock relationship. See the replacement-cylinder guide. |
| Mounting plate or deadbolt adapter differs by generation | The mounting or adapter part listed for the exact generation | August lists separate plates and deadbolt adapter kits across its lock generations. Do not assume two parts with similar names interchange. |
| Large bore leaves a visible gap | A model-specific cover plate | August lists a cover plate for its Wi-Fi Smart Lock 4th Gen to cover a large-bore gap. A cover plate changes the finish around a hole; it does not correct an unsuitable bolt, bore, or mounting condition. |
| Strike or jamb does not align | The strike and installation path specified for the exact lock | A new strike does not establish that the backset, bolt action, frame, or door preparation is suitable. |
| Missing keypad, remote-control, or Thread feature | The exact keypad, hub, controller, or border router for that function | These are electronic or access-feature prerequisites. They cannot fix a mechanical mismatch; see the ecosystem accessory guide. |

Use model-specific examples as screens
These manufacturer listings help identify a part to investigate; they do not replace the full installation guide or prove that the installed door will operate correctly.

Match August parts to the lock generation
August lists separate mounting plates and deadbolt adapter kits by generation. Match the complete model name before ordering.
| August part | Models named on the parts page | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| Mounting plate | Smart Lock 1st Gen, 2nd Gen, and Smart Lock Pro 3rd Gen share one listing; Smart Lock 3rd Gen and Wi-Fi Smart Lock 4th Gen have separate listings. | Do not treat similarly named generations as interchangeable. |
| Deadbolt adapter kit | One listing names Smart Lock 1st Gen, 2nd Gen, and Smart Lock Pro 3rd Gen; another names Smart Lock 3rd Gen and Wi-Fi Smart Lock 4th Gen. | August says the adapters fit most standard cylinder deadbolts; check the exact deadbolt and lock generation. |
| Cover plate | Wi-Fi Smart Lock 4th Gen | Covers a large-bore gap; it does not correct an unsuitable bolt, bore, or mounting condition. |
Compare the documented thickness and hole checks
Kwikset’s 66450 troubleshooting guide distinguishes its models and preparation sizes:
| Kwikset model | Listed door thickness and hole size | Thick-door path in the guide |
|---|---|---|
| Halo Keypad, Halo Touchscreen, and Aura | 1⅜–2 in (35–51 mm); 1½-in (38-mm) or 2⅛-in (54-mm) hole | Kit 83033 is listed for Halo and Aura doors 2–2¼ in (51–57 mm); contact Kwikset to order and confirm the exact Halo model. |
| Halo Touch | 1¾–2 in (44–51 mm); 2⅛-in (54-mm) hole | The guide does not separately identify a thick-door-kit path for Halo Touch; verify the exact model with Kwikset. |
For Schlage BE469, the product specification lists 1⅜–1¾ in as the standard thickness and 1⅞–2¼ in with the available thick-door kit. Separate BE468/BE469 kit instructions give a thickness chart for screw and tailpiece selection; follow those current model-specific instructions. The BE469 product sheet does not establish the same product-sheet range for BE468.
For the Schlage Encode BE489, a door-preparation instruction and a product-specification listing give different upper limits for the thick-door kit. Ask Schlage for the current instruction and exact kit availability for the identified BE489 before relying on a range; this guide does not choose between those limits.
For a cylinder accessory, Aqara’s U200 manual illustrates the difference between a documented spacer system and a generic spacer rule: it specifies 5 mm extensions, at most four on each side, and post-assembly free-turn and lock/unlock checks for that accessory. Those limits do not apply to another cylinder.
These examples come from specific manufacturer documentation, primarily for North American models. They are not a complete accessory inventory or a regional availability comparison. Verify the current SKU, market, and complete preparation requirements before purchase.
Resolve conflicting or missing instructions before buying
If a product sheet and an installation guide give different limits, do not choose the more convenient figure or average the two. Keep the result unresolved until the manufacturer confirms the current specification for the exact model and kit. Also pause when a part number, generation, regional version, or installed-door condition is missing from the documentation.

Never treat a decorative cover, longer screw, or adapter as proof that the lock can operate the door. If the door needs drilling, structural changes, or a different locking action, check the resolution path and consult the manufacturer or a qualified installer.
