Aqara U300 Fit Checks Before Replacing a Deadbolt with a Smart Lever

Use the U300's published door measurements as an initial screen, then confirm the complete replacement and ecosystem path.

Jump to a section

The Aqara U300 is presented as a lever set for replacing a single-cylinder deadbolt. That is a different path from a retrofit lock that mounts over an existing deadbolt. The US product page gives useful initial measurements, but it does not establish a complete fit verdict for every latch, strike, door material, or existing handle arrangement.

Compare the published mechanical measurements

The current US product page lists:

Measurement Published U300 screen
Backset 60 mm or 70 mm
Door thickness 35–55 mm
Door-hole diameter 54 mm

Measure your door using the U300’s current installation instructions. The product page does not provide a complete installation matrix for every latch, edge bore, strike, handing, trim clearance, or door material. Matching these three measurements is a first screen, not confirmation that the lever and latch will operate the door correctly.

The U300’s initial screen checks backset from the door edge to bore center, bore diameter, and door thickness; the current guide and the rest of the fit still need checking.

Confirm that a lever replacement is the right kind of lock

Check whether you can and want to replace the current deadbolt with a lever set. Confirm the existing latch and handle preparation, the strike and frame, door handing, inside and outside clearances, and the required locking action. If the door must retain a separate deadbolt or lift a handle to engage multipoint bolts, ask Aqara or a qualified installer whether the current U300 instructions cover that exact arrangement.

Do not treat the U300 as a cylinder spacer, deadbolt adapter, or universal retrofit for a different lock body. If the existing deadbolt is the part that must remain, compare another model documented for that arrangement instead.

A retrofit motor mounts over an existing deadbolt, while the Aqara U300 path replaces a deadbolt with a lever set; these are different hardware changes.

Match ecosystem requirements to the feature you need

Aqara lists Matter over Thread and multiple smart-home platforms for the U300. The product page also identifies feature-specific infrastructure: full third-party ecosystem integration requires a Thread-enabled Matter controller, Aqara advanced features require an Aqara device that combines a Thread border router and Matter controller, and Apple Home Key has its own Apple controller and Thread requirements. Confirm the current requirements for the feature and platform you intend to use; a platform name alone does not prove equal feature support.

Aqara U300 feature paths differ: third-party Matter needs a Thread-enabled Matter controller, Aqara advanced features need a combined Aqara border router and Matter controller, and Apple Home Key has separate Apple controller and Thread requirements.

The U300 product page currently gives conflicting fingerprint capacities in different sections. This article does not repeat a number. Confirm that specification in the current manual or with Aqara before relying on it.

Check the market and the complete installation guide

The cited product page is a US listing. It does not establish that a Canadian or UK package, price, warranty, or installation path is the same. Before purchase, match the exact regional product and review the current instructions for all door preparation and post-installation checks.

If one measurement or the replacement arrangement remains unclear, keep the decision conditional and ask the manufacturer or an installer to review the exact door dimensions. Use the mechanical accessory guide for a part-specific mismatch and the pre-purchase checklist to record the final result.
