Replacement Cylinders: Emergency Function, Keys, and Fit
Compare a replacement cylinder by profile, measured length, key function, and the exact smart lock it must operate.
Jump to a section
A replacement cylinder is a specific mechanical part, not a universal smart-lock adapter. Choose it only after identifying the current cylinder, measuring both sides, and checking how the door must operate. A Euro or DIN profile name alone does not confirm that a cylinder fits a particular lock body or provides the key function a smart lock needs.
Record the existing cylinder
Before shopping, write down:
- The cylinder profile and the exact smart-lock model it must work with.
- The inside and outside lengths, measured from the retaining screw or cylinder centre to each door plate as the product’s instructions specify.
- Whether the door uses a key or thumbturn inside, whether an inside key can remain inserted while an outside key turns, and whether the door needs a handle-lift or multipoint sequence.
- How many keys are needed, whether existing keys must remain in use, and whether a landlord or shared entrance controls the key system.
- The market, product generation, and current installation guide.
Use the measuring method in the exact manufacturer’s guide. For instance, Nuki’s Smart Lock Ultra guide measures from the retaining screw to the door plates, excluding cylinder overhang. It sets its own profile, length, and clearance limits; those checks do not transfer to other Nuki models or cylinders.

Compare documented cylinder paths
| Product path | Published scope or check | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| Aqara Adjustable Cylinder for U200 and U200 Lite | Aqara names the two lock models for this accessory. The U200 manual uses the original inside and outside lengths, 5 mm spacers, and a maximum of four spacers per side. It requires free key and tailpiece movement and a lock/unlock check before the smart lock is mounted. | Fit for every Euro-profile lock body, market variant, multipoint sequence, or installed door. |
| Yale Linus Adjustable Cylinder | Yale describes a DIN/Euro replacement path, with 30–65 mm internal and 30–60 mm external adjustment in 5 mm increments. Yale excludes cog cylinders. Its datasheet identifies situations such as a thumbturn, a key that cannot operate both sides at once, a thick key, or a key that projects too far as reasons to consider this cylinder. | Fit for every Euro lock body, emergency function, existing key system, or door arrangement. |
| Nuki Universal Cylinder | Nuki’s Smart Lock Ultra materials list a model-specific modular cylinder package and separately give Ultra profile, length, and clearance checks. The UK product page describes an emergency function and a standalone purchase path for the named Nuki product. | Fit for other Nuki generations or other brands, regional price parity, or the reader’s actual door. |
| tedee GO | The cited manual requires a Euro-profile cylinder with a double-clutch, also called panic, function. It directs users who cannot identify that function to tedee support. | Fit for non-Euro profiles, every door dimension, or other tedee models. |
“Emergency function” and “double clutch” describe key behavior, but manufacturers may specify the requirement differently. Confirm the function for the exact cylinder and lock combination. Do not infer it from a profile label or from another brand’s accessory page.

Check keys and daily access
Decide whether the outside key must turn while another key remains inside. Ask whether replacement keys can be ordered and whether a replacement cylinder can be keyed alike with the existing set. A seller’s promise of extra or keyed-alike keys does not show that it can reproduce a particular landlord, building, or household key system.
Before relying on a newly installed cylinder, test key operation and the door’s normal lock and unlock sequence from both sides. Confirm the door opens manually and the required exit path remains available. If the key binds, the multipoint mechanism needs an unfamiliar sequence, or the door body does not match the guide, stop and use the manufacturer’s support or a qualified locksmith.

Keep the model boundaries visible
An adjustable cylinder can solve a length mismatch only within its named product path. It does not prove that a mortise body, cam, cog, handle-lift mechanism, security fitting, or smart-lock mount is compatible. Check the mechanical accessory guide for other physical constraints, then record any remaining questions in the purchase checklist.
