USA vs. Canada Deadbolt Compatibility Checks
Compare the exact lock, package, manual, measurements, and support path for the market where a smart deadbolt will be installed.
Jump to a section
A familiar brand name does not prove that two market versions contain the same lock, kit, instructions, warranty, or support. Compare the exact package against the door where it will be installed.
Build a market-specific record
| Record | What to capture |
|---|---|
| Product identity | Full model code, generation, package, and seller’s market. Keep similar names separate. |
| Instructions | The manual or template for that exact model and market; note revision and measurement units. |
| Mechanical fit | Door type, thickness, backset, bores, strike, clearance, and operating pattern. |
| Included parts | Cylinder, strike, adapter, thick-door kit, batteries, and any other required accessory. |
| Key and app | Keyway, physical override, account or app-region conditions, hub, and supported features. |
| Support | Current warranty, returns, parts, and the manufacturer or installer who can confirm an unresolved condition. |
Record a measurement in its original unit and, if useful, a converted value beside it. Keep enough precision to compare it with the manual; do not round a near-limit result into a pass.
Do not infer market parity
For example, Aqara’s U400 documentation lists different channel-specific model codes. Schlage publishes Canada-hosted BE467F instructions, and Weiser has a Canada-market Halo Touch product page. Identify the exact item and read its matching documentation; these examples do not prove that every U.S. and Canadian package differs—or that two packages are interchangeable.
Availability, pricing, retailer stock, and warranty can change. Recheck them when buying, but do not use a listing or currency as a substitute for the mechanical fit and ecosystem checks. An electronic feature may be regional even when the deadbolt dimensions are similar.
If the exact model or package cannot be identified, keep the result unknown and ask the manufacturer. Continue with door-preparation checks and the key and rekey questions.
